Our Services
Working to the highest conservation standards, we provide specialist services tailored to the unique needs of heritage buildings. Our services include:
Restoration and Conservation
We repair and restore historic stonework using traditional techniques that honour the integrity of the original structure. From repairing weathered masonry to rebuilding architectural features, our work ensures your building is preserved for future generations whilst maintaining its historical authenticity.
Whether you're managing a medieval parish church or a Georgian townhouse, we understand the unique challenges heritage buildings present and work within conservation guidelines to deliver sensitive, high-quality repairs.
Why choose traditional conservation?
Maintains the character and value of historic buildings
Uses breathable materials compatible with the original construction
Meets heritage and conservation requirements
Prevents further deterioration through proper repair techniques
Surveys and Consultations
Understanding the condition of your building is the first step to effective conservation. We provide detailed stone surveys, condition reports, and expert advice on repair strategies, materials, and heritage compliance.
Our surveys go beyond surface-level inspection. We assess the type and condition of stonework, identify the causes of deterioration, and provide clear recommendations on the most appropriate repair methods. For listed buildings and structures in conservation areas, we ensure our advice aligns with heritage requirements and can support your listed building consent applications.
Whether you're a church warden noticing concerning cracks, a homeowner planning renovations to a period property, or a facilities manager responsible for a historic estate, our surveys give you the information you need to make informed decisions. We explain our findings in straightforward terms, outlining priority repairs, long-term maintenance needs, and realistic timescales.
Lime Mortar Work
Modern cement mortars can trap moisture and damage historic stonework. We use traditional lime mortar for pointing and repairs, allowing your building to breathe naturally as it was designed to do.
Our lime work includes repointing, bedding stone, and repairs using hydraulic and non-hydraulic limes matched to your building's age and requirements. This approach prevents the cracking, moisture retention, and stone decay commonly caused by inappropriate cement repairs.
Benefits of lime mortar:
Allows moisture to evaporate, preventing trapped damp
Softer than the stone, protecting masonry from damage
Self-healing properties seal minor cracks over time
Authentic to period construction methods
Stone Cleaning and Treatment
We carefully clean historic stonework to remove decades of dirt, pollution staining, biological growth, and previous inappropriate treatments, all without damaging the stone surface.
Using gentle, proven methods appropriate to each stone type, we restore the appearance of your building whilst preserving its fabric. Our approach is always conservative, prioritising the long-term health of the stonework over aggressive cleaning that can cause irreversible harm.
Sheltercoating (Limewash)
Traditional limewash provides breathable, sacrificial protection for exposed stonework. We apply sheltercoats using authentic lime-based paints that weather gradually, shedding dirt and pollution while allowing the stone beneath to breathe.
Particularly valuable for soft or porous stone, limewash protection has been used for centuries and remains one of the most effective ways to extend the life of vulnerable masonry. The coating naturally self-cleans through weathering and can be easily reapplied as needed.
“Their attention to detail and commitment to quality truly stood out. We’ve already recommended them to others.”
